Arccaptain TIG205Pro Review | Best TIG Welder with Cold Weld Function
Feb 20, 2025

Arccaptain TIG205Pro, the new member has been added to the Arccaptain TIG welders lineup. This welder is also part of the Pro series and supports the iControl function, and Arccaptain has included a cold welding function in this machine.
YouTube Influencer, Freedom Fabrication, made a full review on this machine.
I. Unboxing
The video begins with the unboxing and examine the contents. Inside, he found a TIG torch equipped with finger control, a ground cable, a stick lead, and a gas hose. Notably, there is also an additional machine cover. One aspect he particularly appreciates about Arccaptain is that there will always be a cover included with their machines, which helps maintain the equipment in excellent condition.

II. iControl Function
After setting up the machine, the first feature to highlight is the machine's connection to the Arccaptain mobile app. When opened, the app quickly displays the TIG205Pro and allows for easy connection. After connecting, it shows that the machine is on, in 4T mode, and operating in DC TIG mode.
Users can scroll through modes, access setup instructions, and adjust settings like welding time and post-flow time. By selecting digital control, they can adjust the welding current directly from their phone.
A key advantage of the app is its convenience; users can modify the amperage without having to move around the machine, which is particularly useful in tight spaces. Now that the connection is established and adjustments are made, they are ready to proceed.
III. TIG205Pro Practical Operation
He used the TIG205Pro for welding a stainless steel exhaust manifold, and he is extremely satisfied with the machine's performance. The operation is very smooth, and it provides excellent penetration, effectively achieving the desired welding results. He is very pleased with this!
IV. Cold Weld TIG
He provided a detailed demonstration of how he sets parameters during the cold welding process. Since this is a new feature for most welders, it was somewhat challenging for Freedom Fabrication during initial hands-on practice, but they eventually figured out some tips. He expressed a deep impression of the cold welding function and showcased the inside of the weld, where there were no signs of sugar formation.
The cold TIG function is particularly useful for welding thinner materials, as it allows users to adjust the machine for the appropriate interval needed for the thickness they are welding, as well as to control the speed of the pulse and the amperage.
From his expert perspective, cold welding is particularly beneficial for welding thin sheets, which is an advantage not found in conventional DC TIG machines. Typically, welding thin materials requires a pulse function, but machines with this feature generally cost at least $600 to $700. If someone wants to learn DC TIG welding but has a limited budget, Arccaptain TIG205Pro would be an ideal budget DC TIG machine only for less than $300.
V. Safety Reminder
If voltage conversion is needed, please be sure to wait 5-10 minutes after shutting down before reconnecting the current in the new voltage environment.
